Brief
History
1988 - Desolate
Angel was formed late in this year by Phil Carnes who named the
band after the book by Dennis McNally.
1989 -
Phil Carnes teams up with
Rick Johnson on drums and they cut the first demo with Drew Mazurek
in the Spring . The two-song cassette gains the band their first
exposure as "Strychnine" becomes the Burnout Munchy
of the Week on 97 Underground several weeks in a row.Late this
year Dave Soul joins on guitars and the band records their first
EP , Rip. Self-distribution of the two-song demo gains the band
250 cassette sales through a couple of record stores in their
hometown. This sells out the initial Limited Pressing !
1990 -
Early this year , Allan
Snow joins on vocals and the band self-releases Rip , the five-song
EP recorded the year before. The band pushes hard distributing
this release and again get airplay on 97 Underground. They get
their first press in Maryland Musician Magazine and by the end
of the fall have sold 300 copies of the EP. During the winter
of this year the band records their first full-length cassette
entitled, Reichfuhrer. They begin preparing for its release.
1991 -
March of this year , Hot
Rod joins on bass and the band begins supporting the Reichfuhrer
cassette with many shows at Club K and The Rage in Baltimore.
The band chooses not to release the cassette in stores and opts
to sell them at shows and shop them to record labels. The band
continues to gain more exposure on 97 Underground and in Rox and
Maryland Musician magazines. Late this year Charlie Gorman replaces
Hot Rod on the bass. The initial pressing of 500 copies for Rip
sells out and the band orders a second pressing.
1992 -
January of this year ,
the band places third in the Great Unknown Band Search 1991 ,
and receives a huge write-up in the Maryland Musician. The same
month they open for Prong at the Rage. In February , the band
wins Demo Trax on 97 Underground and gets played every day for
a week. In April the band records a two-song cass-single called
PiranhaSingle and begins to give them away free at the shows.
In the summer they open for Nuclear Assault at the Rage. The band
sends a massive mailing campaign to the record labels and gets
interest from Metal Blade Records during the summer. They end
up not offering a contract and by the fall the band gets an offer
from Starship Records to do three years or two albums.
1993 -
Negotiations and legalities
over the contract last well into May and the band finally signs
the deal and begins pre-production for the album. Brad Divens
(Wrathchild America , Souls at Zero) and Drew Mazurek (recording
engineer) produce with Starship Records and the band. The band
continues playing live and play a record signing party in Maryland
this summer. In October the band goes to Oz Recording Studio for
two weeks and records No Apology , their debut CD on Starship
Records.
1994
- The band begins going on the road in support of their
new CD , but due to packaging problems and later management problems
, the CD is not released this year. The band generates a large
following and is getting a lot of press from all over.
1995 -
During the summer of this
year , Starship Records finally releases the CD and the band begins
to play the East Coast well into the Winter. The band is getting
a lot of exposure in NY , NJ , and LA. 98 Rock in MD and several
out-of-state stations are playing tracks off the CD. The band
plays with Nuclear Assault again and by the end of the year are
writing material for the next album. The second pressing of Rip
sells out for a total of 1,000 copies self-sold , but the band
opts not to press anymore. The band records several live shows.
1996 -
During this year CD sales
are slow. The band continues to play in support of it and opens
for Pro-Pain and Overkill. By the end of the year , the band opts
not to resign with Starship Records as several members of the
band pursue other interests. The band splits up and the band members
go on to other music groups. Phil Carnes founds the power-metal
band Delusion, Charlie Gorman founds the death-metal band Gorman
Prophecy, Allan Snow and Greg Lassiter found the metal band Ten-Ton
Nod, and Rick Johnson has been spotted playing drums for Soundstorm.
